Miller MVP Power Cable and Quick change plug set

Miller MVP Power Cable Cord and Plug Set

On the Miller Maxstar 150 series ,Spectrum 375 X-treme Plasma Cutters , Passport Plus and Millermatic DVI2 Miller uses what is called a MVP ( Multi-Voltage Plug) . There are 3 plugs available : a 115 volt 15amp ( regular wall plug) , a 120 volt 20 amp ( one terminal is sideways) and a 50 amp 230 volt welder plug.
The kit being sold on http://www.brweldingsupplies/ includes the 115 plug and 230 volt plugs and the input cord . This sell for about $ 90. Call 800-783-3073
To install this on a Dynasty 200 DX it is necessary to remove the top cover ( there are 2 screws on the sides by the handles) , loosen the strain releif on the front where the origional input cord goes in . Look at where the green ( ground wire goes ) the white and black wires go also ( you will see a red wire - this will be removed and not used ). Remove the origional cord and install the new cord thru the strain relief. Hook up the green to where the green was. White to wher the white was and black to where the black was . The red wire that was on the origional cord is for three phase only . If you need three phase DONT install this setup as you will be set for single phase only.
Make sure that you check all connections for being secure , wiring tucked in and secured . Tighten the strain relief and reinstall the top cover . Check out on 120 first and see how the machine operates.
I would save the old set up in case there are any warranty issues and or if a resale comes up later down the road.

Our Miller rep came in last week to do a demo and showed us a tungsten grinder that he had been using for a while . It was a TechSouth Tungsten grinder . This is a very well made , dependable and does a great job at a reasonable price . TechSouth makes four models : standard, adjustable, adjustable with vacuum and a 220 volt model. Here are some specs.
The Standard Grinder is an excellent tool for hand orbital welding when using tungsten electrodes. The grind is always consistent for precise arc striking and concentration. The standard unit has a fixed angle 20 degrees included.
The diamond wheel is double sided and the movable disk allows the settings for two grooves on the top; as well as, two on the bottom so the entire wheel is used for grinding.

Miller Dynasty wont switch polarity with Weldcraft Legacy Torch

When trying to switch polarity with the Weldcraft Legacy Torch on a Miller Dynasty 200 DX and the Dynasty wont accept the change , make sure you have the button pushed to OFF on the tig torch . If the button is ON the machine thinks it is still welding and wont allow a change . We have had a few call about this and this was the fix.

Welding Fume Extractors and Hexavalent Chromium

Not all fume extractors are created equal !!! All extract welding fumes and particulates from the air and they do make for a cleaner environment . But unless they have a hepa filter dont expect to get rid of Hexavalent Chromium .
Hexavalent Chromium, or Cr(VI), became a part of the welding lexicon with the implementation of OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1026. Compliance methods discussed in the standard center around the need to reduce Cr(VI) to a specified PEL, or Permissible Exposure Limit. Methods of compliance include materials substitution, employee isolation, and ventilation. All methods have their merits and limitations, and their utilization depends largely on the needs and circumstances of individual welding operations.
Where substitution and isolation methods are not practical, a welding operation seeking compliance with the OSHA standard will by necessity turn to ventilation methods. These methods include circulation fans and local exhaust, or source capture, systems. Circulation and exhaust fans, while widely used, do not by their nature clean air, but only disperse Cr(VI) particulate. As such, this method may not necessarily reduce PELs to compliance levels, and could leave workers at risk.
OSHA therefore recommends that welders utilize source capture systems, indicating that such systems provide the cleanest and healthiest workplaces. Source capture systems include filtering machines such as fume extractors and downdraft tables, and fume exhausters used with extraction arms. Filtering units provide a greater degree of protection of the two source capture methods, because the units capture and contain the harmful particulate and recirculate clean air back into the workplace. While various types of filters exist for this purpose, HEPA filters provide the absolute greatest protection.
